Bizarre Rocks

For miles and miles no houses, no people, just a few cars passing. The rocks are bizarre and red. It feels like a sand storm is coming. The air is heavy and hard to breathe. This was somewhere on Hwy 24 in Utah.

Wild West Horses

This is how horses live in the deserts. It's really hot in the summer and cold in the winter. No trees, no grass, nothing cozy to lay down on. And no one around to cuddle or talk to. It's absolutely a tough life, and not just for the horses (and we have seen a number of wild horses searching for water). The same goes for coyotes and rabbits and birds and even humans. It’s beautiful but rough.

Thompson Canyon, Utah

Driving through Thompson Springs on Hwy 94 into the Thompson Canyon towards Sego Canyon Rock Art there is this really great looking mountain. The pictures in the mirrors caught my eye, and I had to capture the scene before stepping out into the landscape.

Dramatic Scenery

One more amazing rock formation on Hwy 24 in Utah near Caineville. While taking the picture I was wondering how the landscape would look on the other side of this huge rock, but I did not dare to climb up there.

Utah's Beauty

Somewhere on State Road 24 in Utah near Caineville. This is a spectacular road with sceneries changing from grey mountains to smooth yellow or dark red mountains. I find those rock formations really interesting, wondering how they formed this way.

"God's Own Country"

I don't think anyone driving through this part of the "Wild West" can deny that here something very special is happening to the human psyche, meaning love and wonderment for Nature. After the amazing red mountains of Capitol Reef, we came to this soft beige mountain range with this cloudy sky. Nature is so beautiful but also overwhelming in its size and variety.

Capitol Reef National Park

These strange rock walls belong to the Capitol Reef National Park where the Petroglyphs were found. This rock looks interesting, like a huge medieval helmet. This mountain range runs along Hwy 24, from Torrey going East in Utah.

Petroglyphs at Capitol Reef

The rock walls look like glass, they are sharp edged and really red. They belong to the Capitol Reef National Park where several Petroglyphs were found. This one is hard to make out. The figures are pretty washed out from the sediments that drop down from the mountain. It's on Hwy 24, East of Torrey in Utah.

Old Tree in Torrey

Torrey is the little town where Hwy 12 meets Hwy 24 in Utah. Lovely rural area with little horse farms and meadows, which is rare in the Wild West. I had to capture the old tree as he looked so bizarre and broken but still had lots of green foliage. Also I felt, he looked at me implying, "I am old but still handsome!"

The Watcher

Somewhere at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Park on Hwy 12 which is one of the most picturesque highways in Utah. The landscape varies between deep red rocks and pale grey. Sometimes with big trees and at other times no tree, no bush or grass in sight.

Cloudy Morning

Even though the sky looked like rain, we were rewarded with a very impressive drive through what felt like driving inside a canyon on Hwy 24 heading towards Capitol Reef National Park in Utah. These rocks are bizarre and really red.

Twin Rocks

Coming from Torrey on the way to Fruita there is a Twin Rocks View Area on State Road 24 in Utah. It was cloudy and looked like rain. But the rocks are impressive none the less.

Prehistoric Peoples at Capitol Reef

We were not allowed to get close the the petroglyphs at the Capitol Reef National Park. Therefore I photographed one of their exhibition photos taken by Jacob Frank . It's an amazing depiction of some unfamiliar people. Who were these people? No one has figured that out yet, but they sure look alien with their helmets and antennas.
