Campfire in Big Sur

California Living

Hidden away from the tourist area of Big Sur, California, there is this lovely little place, nestled underneath the huge pine trees. The whole region of Big Sur is relatively sparsely populated, with about 2,000 year-round residents. But during the summer lots of tourists overflow the few visitor accommodations like lodges and campgrounds. Sometimes the traffic on Hwy 1 comes to a stop and go situation leaving one lots of time to enjoy the view and the fresh air.

Big Sur Living

Here is one of the few resident homes in the Big Sur area. It's nestled among the huge pine trees. The whole region of Big Sur is relatively sparsely populated, with about 2,000 year-round residents. But during the summer tons of tourists overflow the few visitor accommodations like lodges and campgrounds. And the Highway 1 can be stop and go. That’s why we prefer the spring or autumn season to come here.

River Inn, Big Sur

River Inn is a lovely little restaurant with Wifi. !!!You can find people there from around the world enjoying a small lunch in the sunshine and trying to email their friends at home. We really enjoyed the flowers and the huge fur trees.

Evening Sky

The House by the Sea

Walking along the cliff close to Bixby Bridge trying to find a good spot for a picture of the fog rolling in, I see a house on the bottom close to the Pacific Ocean. How amazing is that? How do they get up to the HWY 1? Do they go shopping by boat?

Fog Rolling In

6:00 PM the last sun rays hit the cliffs. Once the fog rolls in, it will be totally dark. This is the Pacific Ocean showing off all its miracles. Down there is the old and famous Bixby Bridge on California Hwy 1.

California's Bixby Bridge

Coming from Carmel Beach in California, heading to Big Sur on Highway 1. It’s a beautiful ride along the Pacific Coastline crossing the old and famous Bixby Bridge, which has withstood all weathers for decades. People love this bridge and often there is a huge crowd taking photos.

Bixby Bridge in California

Coming from Carmel driving to Big Sur on the Pacific Coast in CA. There is this old and famous Bixby Bridge, which has withstood all weathers for decades. This is the only route to Big Sur from the North.

Coastline at HWY 1

There exists a beautiful film about this wonderful stretch of HWY 1. It's called "Dream Road of the World" or in German "Traumstraße der Welt" by the German producers Hans and Margit Domnick who traveled the American continent by car from 1958 to 1961. What a wonderful experience that must have been.

Cabrillo Highway

Also known as the California Hwy 1 which runs along the Pacific Ocean. This view is a bit South of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The evening fog had already set in covering up the typical California blue sky.
