Coronado Beach, San Diego

It's summer and the water looks so tempting, plus the vibes of the Pacific Ocean is always very exciting, but the water is kind of cool, combined with a fresh breeze. The sand is made of little golden pebbles glittering in the sun. It is a real pleasure to be here.

Hotel del Coronado

We all remember this Hotel from the famous movie "Some Like It Hot". This is at the Coronado Beach, which is located across the Harbor of San Diego in California. It's an old but very beautiful hotel, built in 1888 with wood. It was modernized but still had the fantastic wooden lobby, etc.

Coronado Beach, CA

It's one of the emptiest and widest beaches in the San Diego area. Far in the distance is the ship entrance to the San Diego Harbor and across that entrance is the coastline of Point Loma. Behind us is the Hotel Del Coronado and the Amphibious Naval Base. Coronado is a very upscale and pretty little city.

San Diego Harbor

It's hard to catch a view from the Coronado Bridge onto San Diego Harbor and the City. You can't stop on the bridge. San Diego has a very busy harbor with many trains and boats and oil tanks and warehouses and even a little park.

Alpine CA

It is early in the morning between Pine Valley and Alpine on I-8 in Southern California. Those mountains and valleys are beautiful with lush green shrubs and gorgeously maintained gardens. It sure feels like in the foothills of the German Alps.

Boulder-Mountains

How odd that these mountains consist of millions and millions of boulders in all sizes. And in between them there grows grass and bushes and little flowers. This is a special mountain range on I-8 en route to San Diego. It's late afternoon and the distance is getting hazy before sunset.

California Dunes

They are called the North Algodones Dunes near Glamis on SR 78 in California. You would not expect to see dunes here, and this area is huge, all the way over to I-8 in the South.

Nelson in the desert of Nevada has become a famous place to visit. It's about an hour South of Las Vegas on SR 165. In this hot and dry climate a school bus and cars are standing around for ever and do not rost away.

Nelson Water Tower

Nelson has also a water tower. Don't think it is still working though. This village is in the desert of Nevada, about an hour South of Las Vegas on SR 165. Everything stays looking good in this hot and dry climate and does not rost away.

Morning at the Colorado River

On this side is Nevada and over there is Arizona. And in between flows the magnificent Colorado River. The wind is blowing very strong from down South. It's hard to stand still and hold the camera.

At the Colorado River

If we had a little boat we could cross the Colorado River and be in Arizona shortly. But driving to the other side will take many hours, if it's possible at all, as the terrain is wild and rough. This point is at the end of Navada SR 165, about an hour South of Las Vegas.

Trading Post

Trading post in Nelson, Nevada on SR 165. It's about an hour South of Las Vegas. This lady has everything one can ever imagine, even rattlesnakes and skulls. Very interesting place to visit. A little further down the road runs the Colorado River.

Mount Charleston

On Mount Charleston in the Old Town at 7,350 ft elevation there is this beautiful cottage. Life in the mountains is nice and cool in the summer, but really cold and snowed in during the winter.
